Huawei is a counsel in Allen & Overy’s Beijing office. She has advised a range of Chinese and foreign clients in China-related arbitrations conducted under the major commercial arbitration rules (including the ICC, UNCITRAL, SIAC, HKIAC and CIETAC rules). She has handled disputes relating to cross-border investment, projects, financial products, trade, manufacturing, distribution and intellectual property matters. She has also assisted in FCPA investigations and compliance matters.
Huawei's expertise in dispute resolution offers her a unique angle in helping foreign clients to achieve exit from a distressed relationship with Chinese parties. Her role in the corporate transactions includes providing strategic advice and document drafting.
Huawei has a J.D. degree from Vanderbilt University Law School and is New York State-qualified. Since May 2008, Huawei has been listed in the panel of arbitrators of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC). Huawei has acted as co-arbitrator and sole arbitrator in a number of CIETAC cases. Huawei is fluent in English and Mandarin.

Gin Chao is the Global Strategy & Corporate Development Director for Dell Asia-Pacific Japan based in Shanghai. He is responsible for sourcing and evaluating direct investment opportunities in China as well as supporting strategy formulation throughout the APJ region. He joined Dell in October 2010.

Prior to Dell, Gin was the Head of Corporate Development for Hi-P International, a Shanghai-based SGX-listed manufacturer of consumer electronics, where he conducted due diligence on numerous M&A/JV targets and led the acquisition of a HK-listed company.

Before moving to China, Gin worked in the US for over 12 years in management consulting, investment banking and private equity for various firms including Price Waterhouse, Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown and Sovereign Investment Company. He has raised over $1 billion in 10+ private and public equity and debt transactions and closed over $700 million in 10+ M&A transactions during his career as both sell-side advisor and buy-side principal.

Gin received a BS in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA in finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Simon Tan is an M&A tax partner with more than 19 years of professional experience. He specializes in Chinese mergers and acquisitions work involving tax structuring and tax due diligence support. Simon started his career in the UK by specializing in the UK and corporate international taxation in London with an interest in cross border mergers & acquisitions and divestitures by mainly European multinational companies. He also spent 4 years of his tax career in Singapore where he focused both on Singapore and the regional tax planning for inbound and outbound investment structuring.

Professional Experience

In China, Simon has worked on many assignments by providing tax structuring and due diligence support to strategic buyers and private equity funds making acquisitions in China. In addition, he has also assisted his clients in structuring some of the deals and negotiating with the Chinese vendors on deal price and advising on transaction legal documents from tax perspective.

Professional Qualifications

Simon is a member of the UK Chartered Institute of Taxation; the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales; and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore.

Richard is a partner in Allen & Overy’s Shanghai office. Richard worked in Allen & Overy’s London office for six years, where he gained extensive cross-border M&A experience, before relocating to Shanghai in 2006 to bolster Allen & Overy's PRC and Asia Pacific regional corporate practice. His clients include major corporates, financial institutions and funds such as Danone, United Business Media, Pilkington NSG, TE Connectivity, JPMorgan, AEGON, ING, Deutsche Bank, Discovery, LaSalle Investment Management and Macquarie.
